Unstoppable Force! Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Launches Bold Manifesto, Shakes Up NRM’s Old Guard!

By Frank Kamuntu

In a quiet but symbolically charged event in Kampala, engineer and policy strategist Eng.Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki has officially launched his manifesto to become the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, pledging to inject technocratic discipline, science-led policy, and grassroots revitalization into the party’s top leadership.

In his 29-page manifesto titled “Advancing a Legacy of Purposeful Transformation (2025–2030)”, he describes it as a practical framework to modernize governance, empower the youth, and reignite grassroots participation in the NRM.

“We must reconnect political leadership with technical competence,” Akiiki said during the launch. “Development cannot be driven by slogans. It must be engineered—intentionally, scientifically, and inclusively.”

A Plan Rooted in Delivery, Not Rhetoric

The manifesto outlines 11 key interventions, ranging from large-scale agricultural commercialization to youth innovation hubs, mineral beneficiation, and creative industry support. He also proposes civic education initiatives and a UGX 50 billion Local Content Innovation Fund to boost local entrepreneurship.

At the center of his plan is a desire to bridge Uganda’s legacy leadership with the needs of its youthful population, especially in rural and underrepresented areas.

Akiiki’s supporters argue that his background as an engineer, entrepreneur, and former teacher gives him the credibility to deliver real outcomes, unlike many who ride on political popularity alone.

“He’s proven his leadership outside the political arena,” said Paul Lokwii, an NRM leader from Karamoja. “He’s created jobs, mentored youth, and transformed communities—long before elections were in sight.”

Not Just Regional—A National Technocrat

Though vying for a regional seat, Akiiki’s work spans the country. His firm, Jonard Group, employs youth across Uganda, and he has played a role in infrastructure projects like Tilenga Oil Project and Kabaale International Airport.

With degrees in engineering, project management, and oil and gas governance—and currently pursuing a PhD in stakeholder engagement—he positions himself as a technocrat who can deliver development while preserving the Movement’s ideological roots.

Guess what, the race is just heating up, and all eyes are on Jonard Asiimwe—the visionary leader with a plan, the grit, and the people behind him.
