In a display of rapid police response and public vigilance, four men aged 18 to 24 were arrested on Monday evening, December 1, within minutes of the alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in the restroom of a KFC restaurant at the Forum des Halles shopping centre in central Paris.
According to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, passers-by discovered the distraught teenager shortly after the attack and immediately alerted authorities. The victim, who had become separated from a friend while in the busy Les Halles district, reportedly agreed to wait with a group of men she had just met – only to be led into the fast-food restaurant’s toilets where the assault allegedly took place.
“Police officers from the Central police station were alerted by passers-by in the Les Halles area that a young woman had told them she had just been raped,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
Officers raced to the scene and, with the victim’s assistance in identifying her alleged attackers, took the four suspects into custody on the spot. The men now face charges of gang rape of a minor under the age of 15, a serious offence carrying severe penalties under French law.
The four individuals are currently being questioned by the Juvenile Protection Unit (Brigade des Mineurs). French authorities have moved swiftly to ensure the teenager receives comprehensive medical care and psychological support in the aftermath of the traumatic incident.
