“Stop Wasting Your Time, I Won’t Contest In 2026”- Gen Muhoozi Kicks PLU Supporters Into Tears As He Endorses Museveni For 7th Term

The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said he will not run for president in the 2026 elections.

“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026,” said Muhoozi on his official X handle early Saturday morning,

“Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first,” he added.

Muhoozi said he would throw his weight behind his 80-year-old father whom he implied would seek reelection in 2026.

Museveni was in 2021 reelected for a sixth term in office, having seized power in 1986.

“So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” said Muhoozi.

It remains unclear why Muhoozi abandoned the presidential race.

Muhoozi’s sudden u-turn will stun his fans, some of whom were already mobilising for his presidency.

In 2023, Muhoozi announced his 2026 presidential bid.

“In the name of Jesus Christ my God, in the name of all the young people of Uganda and the world and in the name of our great revolution, I will stand for the presidency in 2026,” said Muhoozi.

“How many agree with me that our time has come? Enough of the old people ruling us. Dominating us. It’s time for our generation to shine.”

The 2026 polls are expected to attract the participation of singer-turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and Dr Kizza Besigye among others.

Muhoozi seemed to suggest he would continue serving as army chief.

“For me NOTHING on this earth is more Holier than UPDF!” said Muhoozi.

“So, I cannot think of a greater honour than being in UPDF. It is Holy Ground!! Godbless Holy UPDF and Sacred Uganda forever!!!”
