Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga has revealed that University flags will be flying at half-mast for a full month in memory of their late Council Chairman Canon Joram Kahenano, who passed away on October 5th.

Canon will be laid to rest today 8th October in Mbarara, Western Uganda at Kyamugorani CoU at 11am.

Muganga says for the entire month of October, they will be reflecting on the contribution of Kahenano to the University and the entire country.

”In honour and respect for Canon’s impactful legacy, Victoria University flags will fly at half mast for the entire month. This is a time for us to reflect on his contributions to our institution. We will continue to build on his legacy, to make this University the best African University, built on global standards,” vowed Muganga.

In his earlier message, Dr. Muganga expressed deep sorrow over the death of Kahenano, acknowledging his visionary leadership and his significant contributions to the university’s growth.

”Canon Kahenano’s selflessness knew no bounds, and his counsel and guidance were the bedrock upon which Victoria University built its recent successes. With unmatched expertise and unwavering dedication, he steered us through challenges and toward tremendous growth; a legacy we shall always owe to him,” said Muganga.

Several other Ugandans have since joined Dr Muganga and the entire Victoria University community in mourning Kahenano. Among these include the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa who said; “The country has lost a true patriot who dedicated most of his life to the government, serving the country in different capacities.”

Tayebwa further praised Canon’s critical role at the Central Bank, where he effectively managed the nation’s monetary policy during challenging economic times.

The Diocese of Kampala also inked; ”We are saddened by the news reaching us of our former Diocesan Secretary, Joram Kahenano who has passed on to glory. We keep the family and friends in prayer for comfort.”

The Provincial Fathers’ Union-Church of Uganda also joined mourners and in their message they say; Canon is remembered alongside individuals such as Ephraim Charles Kwizera, Justice Muhanguzi, the late Justice Kakuru, George Kihugulu, Gerosom Oketcho, Amos Mwesigye.” It is worth noting that Canon also served as CEO of the Church Commissioners Holding Company Limited.

Former Speaker of Parliament who doubles as Deputy Prime Minister of East African Affairs Hon Alitwala Kadaga also praised Kahenano’s mega contributions to the country.

Kahenano was known for his leadership qualities and in-depth understanding of the financial industry. His influence extended beyond banking into education, where his role as the Chairman of Victoria University’s Council demonstrated his commitment to fostering education and professional development in Uganda.
