”Besigye’s Health Is Beyond What You Think, He Even Collapsed This Morning”-Bobi Wine Reveals After Luzira Visit

By Frank Kamuntu

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has raised alarms about the deteriorating health of Uganda’s opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is currently being detained at Luzira Upper Prison.

In a social media post, Bobi Wine shared troubling details from his recent visit to the prison, where he was denied access to Besigye due to the latter’s frail and weakened condition.

According to Kyagulanyi, Hajj Obed Lutale, who briefed him on Besigye’s state, confirmed that the opposition leader is in a critical condition to an extent that he even collapsed earlier in the day while continuing to demand his freedom.

Besigye has been vocal in his calls for his trial in a civilian court, reiterating that if the government has legitimate charges against him, they should present them in a fair court of law. His continued detention without trial has sparked outrage from various sectors, including human rights groups and political activists, who argue that his detention is unlawful and politically motivated.

Bobi Wine, who has been a close ally and supporter of Besigye, expressed his concern over the deteriorating situation. “Besigye’s health is worsening by the day, and it’s alarming that such a distinguished leader is being subjected to this treatment. We must continue to raise our voices for his freedom,” Kyagulanyi stated in his post. He also revealed that during his visit, he met with fellow NUP member, Bobi Young, who passed along greetings to the citizens of Uganda.

Kyagulanyi indicated that he will continue to work with other political forces to strategize and demand Besigye’s freedom. “The struggle for Besigye’s release is not over. We will take every necessary step, including mobilizing fellow patriots and international communities, to ensure that his rights are respected,” he added.

As Besigye’s health continues to decline, the calls for his release grow louder. Many Ugandans are outraged by what they view as the inhumane treatment of one of the country’s most prominent opposition leaders.

The struggle for justice and freedom remains ongoing, with political leaders like Bobi Wine vowing to intensify efforts to end what they perceive as the unlawful detention of their colleagues.
