With Liverpool sitting 13 points clear at the top of the table and with only six weekends of action remaining, fans are thinking about WHEN they can win the Premier League title, rather than if.
Here, we look at the permutations of how and when they could be confirmed as 2024/25 Premier League champions.
The main thing to know is that the Reds’ 2-1 win over West Ham, combined with Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at home to Brentford, means the earliest Liverpool can win the title is NEXT weekend, on Sunday 20 April.
Most simply, Liverpool need another six points out of the 18 that are available across their remaining six Premier League matches to guarantee a second Premier League title, and 20th league title overall.
That would give them 82 points, out of reach of their nearest rivals Arsenal, because even if the Gunners won their remaining six matches, they could get to only 81 points.
When is the earliest Liverpool can win the title?
Arsenal must first lose their next match, at Ipswich Town, on Sunday 20 April (KO 14:00 BST).
Then if Liverpool beat Leicester at 16:30 BST later that day, they would be on 79 points, while Arsenal would still be on 63 points and only able to finish on a maximum of 78, with five matches and 15 points left to fight for.
Assuming Arsenal beat 18th-placed Ipswich and that Liverpool win their next match, it would mean Premier League action ends in Matchweek 33 next weekend with Liverpool on 79 points and Arsenal on 66 points.
If the above scenario happens, it means Arsenal will go into their home match against Crystal Palace on 23 April needing to avoid defeat to deny Liverpool being confirmed champions.
But even if Arsenal beat Palace on 23 April and go 10 points behind Liverpool with four matches remaining, it would give Liverpool the chance to confirm the title with victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on 27 April.
