Drama As Fearless Man Climbs Bugembe Cathedral Roof Claiming He Wants to ‘Go to Heaven’

By Our Reporter

A dramatic scene unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in Bugembe town when a man attempted to climb onto the rooftop of Christ’s Cathedral, claiming he was on a mission to “go to heaven.”

The incident drew a large crowd of stunned onlookers and churchgoers, many of whom quickly alerted church security and local authorities. Eyewitnesses said the man appeared visibly distressed as he scaled the cathedral walls, shouting that he was going to meet God.

Church security managed to intercept and safely bring him down from the rooftop without injury. Shortly after, police arrived at the scene and took the man into custody for questioning to assess his motives and mental state.

Church officials confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude that it was resolved peacefully. “Our priority was to ensure the safety of everyone, including the man himself,” one official said.

Local leaders condemned the act, urging the public to respect places of worship and prioritize safety. Some residents suggested the man may be experiencing mental health issues and called for increased access to counseling and community support services.

“This is a clear reminder of the mental health challenges many people face silently. We need to offer help, not judgment,” one neighbor said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and warned against attempts that could endanger lives. The man remains under observation and, according to police, will be given appropriate care and follow-up support.
