CID Job: Museveni Renews AIGP Magambo’s Contract For Another 2yrs

By Frank Kamuntu

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended the tenure of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo for another two years, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening criminal investigations in Uganda.

Magambo, who serves as the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), was set to see his contract expire at the end of this month. However, sources within security circles indicate that his leadership at CID has earned him the confidence of the President, leading to the renewal of his contract.

Magambo’s reappointment comes at a critical time when Uganda faces growing concerns over organized crime, corruption, and high-profile investigations into financial fraud and security threats. His tenure since January 2022 has been marked by efforts to modernize CID operations, strengthen forensic investigations, and shift toward intelligence-led policing.

Under his leadership, CID has tackled major criminal syndicates and worked to improve investigative efficiency within the Uganda Police Force. His focus on digital forensics and evidence-based investigations has been seen as a step toward professionalizing law enforcement.

Reacting to the contract renewal, Magambo expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the trust placed in him. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing law enforcement capabilities, ensuring justice, and improving crime prevention strategies.

With two more years at the helm of CID, Magambo is expected to double down on his initiatives, reinforcing Uganda’s fight against corruption, cybercrime, and violent offenses.

At a time when public trust in law enforcement is being scrutinized, maintaining stability at CID ensures that ongoing investigations and reforms are not disrupted.
