”Compesate Us Instead Of Chasing Us Away Like Beggars” – Tororo Kasoli Residents Ask Standard Gauge Railway Operators

By Frank Kamuntu

In recent days we saw stories about the Kasoli Housing Project established by local people to build an estate to ensure that all their members had good homes. In that bid, this project was to have over 250 members housed.

The organized SACCO members went for a partnership with different stakeholders but the standard gauge railway requested to compensate them which they accepted since the project was to be concluded within 3 months. At this time it was in 2016 but the compensation started last week.

These people have been less paid and what hurts is that they have shared the compensation fee with the government and what is given to them can’t even help them to relocate.

These people are now in thousands and they are left in limbo of street survival and soon you will see Tororo flooded with street kids.

To our dismay, we realized that even their office structures are just abducted on zero compensation and we are still wondering why the government is behaving like this.

These are your people who came up with one of the best ideas and they should instead be protected by you, but instead, you are taking what belongs to them.

We call upon whoever is responsible to kindly compensate these people to start up and boost their SACCO you conceived and failed.

These tenants were given less compensation, it has been overdue, you are sharing 30% of what they got and still, you are taking their offices freely.

Where is the heart of humanity?
