Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s most prominent business magnates, has come out to strongly disown an X (formerly Twitter) account falsely impersonating him and misleading the public with fabricated claims.
In a confirmation message, Dr. Sudhir clarified that the account in question — using the handle @RupareliaSudhi and bearing his photos — is entirely fake and not affiliated with him in any way.
“This account is fake. I don’t know who is behind it or what their intentions are,” Dr. Sudhir said. “But it is clear they are using my image and name to mislead the public.”
The fake account has attracted over 21,000 followers and has been actively making emotional and dramatic posts — including those mourning Rajiv Ruparelia’s death and announcing major business deals. Some of these posts have gone viral, with several unsuspecting media outlets quoting them as genuine without verification.
Dr. Sudhir also warned the public and his business partners to beware of other similar scams — including recent attempts to use AI-generated videos of him to defraud unsuspecting individuals and institutions.
He emphasized the need for due diligence and verification, especially in an era where AI and impersonation schemes are increasingly common online.
