Kitgum Tragedy: Man Kills Wife & Three Children Before Setting House On Fire

By Our Reporter

The residents of Mucwini West Sub-county are in mourning after a horrific act of domestic violence that left an entire family dead. The suspect, identified as Ocaya, allegedly murdered his wife and three children before setting their home ablaze in an apparent attempt to cover up the crime.

Authorities say Ocaya fatally stabbed his wife, Nancy Adoch, along with their children—Robinson Aken (10), Canon Omara (5), and Nancy Aloyo (3)—before torching the house. By the time neighbors noticed the flames and alerted security forces, it was too late to save the victims.

Police have since launched a manhunt for Ocaya, who remains at large. Law enforcement officials are urging the public to provide any information that may lead to his capture.

While the motive for the brutal killings remains unknown, the tragedy has reignited conversations about mental health and domestic violence in Uganda. Community leaders have emphasized the need for greater awareness and intervention in family disputes before they escalate into violence.

“This is a tragic loss, and we need to address the root causes of such incidents,” said a local leader. “We urge the government to increase access to mental health resources and support systems to help families resolve conflicts peacefully.”

The remains of the victims have been taken to Kitgum General Hospital for postmortem examinations as the police intensify their search for Ocaya. Meanwhile, residents are demanding justice and calling for stronger measures to prevent domestic violence from escalating into such devastating acts.

“The government must take action to protect families,” said one grieving neighbor. “We need strict laws and community programs to prevent such tragedies.”

As authorities continue their investigations, the Mucwini West community remains in shock, struggling to come to terms with the loss of four innocent lives. The case serves as a chilling reminder of the urgent need for proactive measures to address domestic violence and mental health challenges in Uganda.
