By Frank Kamuntu

Yesterday, Kampala International University (KIU) welcomed the entire University Council, led by Dr. Jennifer Twebaze Musoke, Acting Chairperson, accompanied by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ngoma Muhammed.

The council toured the Western Campus in Ishaka, including the university facilities and KIU Teaching and Research Hospital (KIUTHR). They were warmly received by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Eric Mabonga and Dr. Umi Omar Bunu, CEO of KIUTHR.

The visit coincided with the National Ankole Surgical Camp, where KIUTHR has been providing FREE surgeries to hundreds of patients. This life-changing initiative has yielded tremendous results, demonstrating KIU’s commitment to community service and excellence in medical education.

The surgical camp offered various specialized surgeries, including:

– General surgery
– Orthopedic surgery
– Neurosurgery
– Gynecology operations
– Cataract surgery
– Hernia repair
– Thyroid and prostate surgery

Under Dr. Omar Bunu’s expert leadership, KIUTHR’s partnership with the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU) and the Ministry of Health has significantly impacted the community’s health and wellbeing.

The camp concluded today with a general symposium, featuring expert presentations, panel discussions, and knowledge sharing among medical professionals.

KIU remains dedicated to bridging the healthcare gap and nurturing future medical professionals.
