By Our Reporter

In a major coordinated operation aimed at enhancing road safety and curbing drink driving, law enforcement agencies carried out targeted checks across six police stations last night, resulting in the arrest of 84 individuals suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The arrests were recorded as follows:

  • Katwe Police Station – 18 suspects
  • Jinja Road Police Station – 19 suspects
  • Kawempe Police Station – 12 suspects
  • Nansana Police Station – 12 suspects
  • Old Kampala Police Station – 14 suspects
  • Central Police Station (CPS) – 9 suspects

All individuals apprehended during the operation are currently in custody. Standard processing procedures are underway, including the recording of statements, fingerprinting, and preparation for court appearances.

Authorities reiterated their strong warning to motorists: Do not drive under the influence of alcohol. Drink driving is not only a criminal offense but also a dangerous act that endangers the lives of all road users. It remains one of the leading causes of road traffic crashes, many of which result in serious injury or death.

This latest operation reflects the ongoing commitment of the police to enforce road safety regulations and protect the public from preventable tragedies on the roads. Law enforcement agencies have pledged to continue such crackdowns, especially during high-risk periods and in known hotspots.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected drink driving and cooperate with traffic enforcement teams to ensure safer roads for everyone.
