No Mercy For Criminals! Soroti RDC Eseru Declares War On Electoral Offenders Ahead Of 2026 Campaigns

By Our Reporter

As Uganda gears up for the official start of open campaigns on 1st July 2025, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Soroti, Mr. Eseru Paul, has issued a stern warning to residents of Soroti District and the greater Teso sub-region against committing any form of electoral offenses.

In an official communication released today from the RDC’s office, Eseru emphasized the need for peace, integrity, and adherence to the law during the upcoming campaign and election period. He cautioned that acts such as voter bribery, tribalism, hate speech, intimidation, impersonation, incitement to violence, defacement of campaign materials, and participation by non-residents will not be tolerated.

“The NRM Electoral Commission, security agencies, and other stakeholders are closely monitoring the electoral process,” Eseru stated. “To this end, my office has directed that a General Inquiries File (GIF) be opened at Soroti Central Police Station – Katine to handle all reports and cases related to electoral offenses.”

The RDC further warned that any individuals found committing or aiding electoral malpractice will face legal consequences. “They will be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he stressed.

Calling upon political actors, their supporters, and the general public, Eseru urged all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and ensure a free and fair electoral process in Soroti. “Let us work together to protect the integrity of our democracy,” he appealed.

This proactive stance comes as Uganda enters a politically charged campaign season, with both local and national offices up for contest in the forthcoming general elections.

The letter, dated 30th June 2025 and officially stamped by the RDC’s office, underscores the government’s zero tolerance for election-related misconduct and highlights the role of civic responsibility in maintaining peace and order during the democratic process.
