Police authorities have released comprehensive details surrounding the tragic death of UPDF officer Olinde John. The fatal crash occurred March 30, 2025, along airfield road at Te-Dam village, Bardege.
According to Gulu City Police reports, Officer Olinde took control of the military vehicle with keys left inside for warming purposes. The vehicle belonged to General Saleh’s fleet stationed at the local command post.
The deceased officer drove at excessive speed while returning to General Saleh’s residence from Gulu City area. His co-passenger Oluka Dan, 28, survived with severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses described how the speeding vehicle swerved sharply right before the devastating impact. The collision split the police vehicle into two separate parts.
Medical personnel pronounced Olinde dead at the scene of the crash. His remains now rest at 4th Division mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
Gulu City Central Police Station currently holds the wreckage for inspection. Investigating officers continue gathering evidence about the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
The Inspector of Vehicles team launches detailed mechanical assessments tomorrow. Police spokesperson confirmed ongoing investigations to determine additional factors behind the crash.
