Bazzukulu under the leadership of ONC head, Hadijah Uzeiye Namyalo on Friday 8th September celebrated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all the veterans who fought in the deadly Katonga battle.

The mega event that attracted thousands of people from all corners of Uganda was held at Kololo Airstrip where the bazzukulu also celebrated Museveni’s 79th birthday.

Addressing his bazzukulu, Museveni started by thanking the wise leadership of Hajjat Namyalo for remembering the contribution of Katonga veterans before he pledged to handle all their concerns as were tabled by the Chief Muzzukulu.

“I am glad you agreed to combine my 79 years of life with our struggle and in this case events of Katonga. I want to thank all those who participated in the Katonga battles.”

The President narrated to the bazzukulu that the turmoil that Uganda went through before the NRA captured power in 1986 could have been avoided if the then leaders had listened to what the people were telling them.

“Ugandans should know those wars were totally unnecessary. We could have had total peace but some people decided to go for sectarianism .The suffering we went through could have been avoided .We could have negotiated and solved these issues without shedding blood but others didn’t want to listen to us and didn’t want democracy. That’s why we had to fight until we got victory,” Museveni said.

The President who is currently being asked to stand again in 2026, didn’t forget reminding his bazzukulu on how they can secure the future they want through engaging themselves in commercial agriculture, industries and ICT in a bid to curb poverty from their homes.

On her part, Hajjat Namyalo reminded the President that bazzukulu will have no negotions on his come back in 2026.

”Dear President we are here today in this huge number to remind you that we want you to come back in 2026 and lead us. On issues of your coming back we have no negotitions with any person. We only know that it’s only you who is capable. Therefore, Omalayo Jajja, Tova Ku Ballot”, Hajjat Namyalo appealed to the President.

The event was characterized by excess food and drinks, entertainment, exhibitions among other activities that left bazzukulu praising Hajjat Namyalo and her team for being wonderful organizers.

”Man, i reached here early in the morning because i thought they are going to serve us porridge so i didn’t want to miss, but guess what [mwana] i was welcomed here with two plates of rice and a soda, am now chilling here after i go back and eat another round, after i will go to the entertainment section and first break some dance strokes, the fact is these guys have made our day mwana….” said a jubilant ‘city boy’.
