Two Buses Involve In A Terrible Accident, Over 68 People Rushed To Various Hospitals

Port Arthur, Texas — A wreck involving three charter buses in Port Arthur sent 68 people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, but no life-threatening injuries were reported, according to officials.

Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso confirmed to 12News that the crash happened around 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of State Highway 73.

The Hotard buses, were carrying plant workers on their way home from work when the crash happened in a construction zone.

According to Port Arthur Police, the wreck was caused when a dump truck cut into the lane in front of the first bus, forcing the driver to slow down. The second bus also slowed, but the third bus was unable to stop in time, causing a chain reaction that led to the crash.

Emergency responders transported 36 people to Baptist Hospital, where none were in critical condition or admitted, according to hospital spokesperson Stephanie Harris.

Four people were taken to CHRISTUS hospital, according to Hollie English at CHRISTUS.

Another 28 people were taken to The Medical Center, with none in critical condition, according to the hospital.

Port Arthur Police and Fire, along with City Ambulance, responded to the scene.

The wreck caused traffic backups in the area, but it has cleared.

Port Arthur Police are reminding drivers to obey traffic laws and stay alert on the road.
