Panic As Dozens Of Mad Cows Attack Village, Kills Over 20 People!

By Our Reporter

In an unprecedented and horrifying event, over 20 people have been reported dead in a remote village in northern Togo after a group of apparently rabid or “mad” cows launched a violent rampage through the area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning in the village of Kabou, located in the Kara region near the border with Ghana. According to local authorities, a herd of cattle—normally docile and used for farming—turned unusually aggressive and began attacking villagers without provocation.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and terror as the animals charged through homes, gored residents, and trampled fleeing children and elderly individuals. “We woke up to screaming and the sound of hooves,” said Kossi Adomayakpor, a survivor and village elder. “These were not normal cows. They were like possessed beasts.”

Authorities Investigate Disease Outbreak

Veterinary experts and health officials have been dispatched to the area to assess the situation and examine the remaining cattle. Preliminary findings suggest the animals may have been infected with a rare form of bovine rabies or another neurological disease that affects behavior, sometimes referred to as “bovine spongiform encephalopathy” (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease.

Dr. Kafui Mensah, a veterinary pathologist from Lomé, stated, “While BSE typically does not manifest as violent behavior in animals, we are exploring all possibilities, including toxic exposure, rabies, or an unknown neurological condition that could have altered the animals’ behavior.”

Local reports also indicate that several of the surviving cows were found foaming at the mouth and appeared disoriented before being euthanized by authorities.

Human Toll & State of Emergency

As of Friday morning, at least 23 people are confirmed dead, with more than 30 others injured, some critically. The Togolese Ministry of Health has issued a regional alert, warning neighboring villages to remain indoors and report any aggressive animal behavior immediately.

The national government has declared a state of emergency in the affected district and has mobilized military and medical personnel to assist with rescue operations, treat survivors, and secure the area.

Cultural Shock & Grief

The incident has deeply shaken the country, where cattle are not only a vital economic resource but also hold cultural and spiritual significance in many communities.

“We have never seen anything like this in our history,” said Mayor Awa Tchabouré of Kabou. “We ask for prayers and international support as we try to understand and recover from this terrible tragedy.”

The United Nations and several humanitarian organizations have expressed concern and are monitoring the situation. The World Health Organization (WHO) is reportedly sending a team to investigate potential zoonotic disease implications.
