Land Fraud! State House Arrests ‘City Master’ For Grabbing Multimillion Land In Munyonyo

In a coordinated crackdown on land fraud, anti-corruption authorities today arraigned Ahebwa Eric before the KCCA Magistrate’s Court on charges of forgery, uttering false documents, and the fraudulent procurement of a certificate of title.

The case, brought forward by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), stems from a land deal dating back to January 3, 2018.

According to prosecutors, Ahebwa, together with others still at large, allegedly forged land transfer documents at the KCCA Ministry Zonal Office in Kampala. The forged documents were used to fraudulently acquire a certificate of title for land situated at Kyadondo Block 255, Plot 389 in Munyonyo, one of Kampala’s prime residential areas.

Authorities say the suspects prepared and presented a false transfer form, intending to deceive and defraud both the public and relevant land offices, ultimately obtaining ownership of the land through illegitimate means.

The charges brought against Ahebwa are part of ongoing efforts by the government to clamp down on rampant land fraud, which has long plagued the real estate and land registration sectors in Uganda. The prosecution has indicated that investigations into the whereabouts of the accomplices are ongoing.

If convicted, Ahebwa could face several years in prison under Uganda’s Penal Code provisions related to forgery, fraud, and uttering false documents.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has called the case a “critical reminder of the urgent need to clean up land administration systems”, adding that land-related fraud remains one of the most reported crimes across Uganda.
