In a major boost to the health sector, Alebtong District has received two world-class ambulances, fully equipped with modern diagnostic and cardiopulmonary support systems, in a move hailed as a game-changer for emergency medical response in the region.
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 31, 2025, by Mathias Lutwama Afrika, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC) of Alebtong, who praised the government’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare access and delivery under the framework of the NRM manifesto.
“Emergency medical care, in the demystification of the NRM manifesto, is a sine qua non for social emancipation,” Lutwama stated. “We thank His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Rt. Hon. Hamson Obua, MP for Ajuri County and Government Chief Whip, for championing this cause for the people of Alebtong.”
The D/RDC emphasized that ambulance services in Alebtong are completely free, and fuel and operational costs are covered quarterly by the government for all public medical facilities in the district.
This initiative, according to Lutwama, directly responds to the community’s long-standing need for rapid medical response, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
“There will be no excuse for delay. With these ambulances in place and government footing the operational costs, every life-threatening situation will be handled swiftly and professionally,” he added.
The ambulances come fitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) systems, and real-time monitoring equipment that matches international emergency care standards. Health professionals in Alebtong have welcomed the development, noting that it will significantly reduce preventable deaths, especially from road accidents, obstetric emergencies, and chronic illnesses.
Collaborative Leadership Making a Difference
Lutwama also took the opportunity to highlight the collaborative leadership model in Alebtong, saying it has played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth service delivery across sectors.
“Our district works because we lead together. From the RDC’s office to the sub-county councillors, our leaders put egos aside to prioritize development. This unity is the reason such services reach the people effectively and on time.”
Observers have commended the D/RDC’s leadership style—one that combines discipline, grassroots engagement, and cross-sector coordination. Under his stewardship, Alebtong has seen steady improvements in health, education, and community mobilization.
The arrival of the ambulances is not only a local achievement but also a tangible expression of the NRM government’s national agenda. As articulated in Vision 2040 and the Third and Fourth National Development Plans, access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of Uganda’s path to inclusive growth and social transformation.
Residents of Alebtong, many of whom have struggled with access to emergency care, expressed gratitude and renewed hope.
“This is what real government service looks like—seeing ambulances not just in words or papers but right here in our district, ready to serve,” said Sarah Akello, a resident in Amugu subcounty.
With this new milestone, Alebtong sets a strong example of what efficient, value-based public service can achieve, especially when driven by committed leadership and aligned with the needs of the people.
