City businessman and philanthropist Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has added a new diplomatic vehicle to his fleet — a luxurious white Lexus SUV fitted with Uganda’s recently introduced digital number plates.
The sleek vehicle, registered under the diplomatic plate HC 151 001U, was spotted cruising through Kampala, standing out with its signature red plate — a mark of Sudhir’s consular status and recognition of his diplomatic role.
Dr. Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s most influential entrepreneurs and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Nepal, was appointed to the position in 2020, a role that has strengthened Uganda–Nepal relations by promoting trade, tourism, and investment cooperation between the two nations. As Nepal’s representative in Uganda, he has continued to foster cultural exchange and business partnerships that benefit both countries.
The new digital diplomatic plate marks a significant upgrade from his earlier consular vehicle issued in 2020. It also reflects the government’s ongoing modernization of vehicle registration under the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), an initiative aimed at improving road safety, transparency, and vehicle traceability.
The digital plates are equipped with advanced tracking and security features, enabling real-time monitoring and easier identification — a move the government says will strengthen law enforcement and enhance accountability on Ugandan roads.
Bearing the distinctive “HC” code reserved for Honorary Consuls, Sudhir’s Lexus not only symbolizes diplomatic prestige but also underscores the growing involvement of Uganda’s private sector leaders in advancing the country’s global partnerships.
By adopting the new digital system, Dr. Ruparelia continues to set an example of leadership and compliance among the business elite. His embrace of technological progress aligns with his broader vision of a modern, globally connected Uganda.
Beyond his diplomatic duties, Sudhir remains the Chairman of the Ruparelia Group, one of East Africa’s largest business empires with investments in real estate, hospitality, education, media, and finance. His active role in both business and diplomacy has positioned him as a bridge between entrepreneurship and international cooperation.
