By Swift Reporter

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged leaders to prioritize national interest, embrace a shared identity, and respect cultural institutions during a meeting with National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu at Bulange.

Speaking at the seat of the Buganda Kingdom administration, Mayiga emphasized that cultural institutions serve a unifying role and should remain spaces open to all Ugandans, regardless of political affiliation.

“Buganda is the foundation of Buganda, and everyone is welcome to Bulange. It is also good for a leader to know and understand where you come from, so that you can understand where you are going,” he said.

The Katikkiro commended Kyagulanyi for consistently carrying and displaying the national flag, describing the gesture as a symbol of unity and shared responsibility among leaders and citizens.

“I thank you, Robert Kyagulanyi, for raising and moving with the National Flag. That shows and spreads love. Leadership is like that, because we face the same challenges,” Mayiga added.

Reflecting on Kyagulanyi’s previous visit to Bulange in 2020 during the election period, Mayiga reiterated the kingdom’s commitment to advocating for Buganda’s interests, known locally as Ebyaffe.

“You last came here in 2020, still around election time. I told you then that we want a leader who stands with the five demands of Buganda—Ebyaffe,” he noted.

The meeting formed part of Kyagulanyi’s engagements with cultural and community leaders ahead of his political activities in Rubaga Division, highlighting the importance of national unity, dialogue, and leadership that addresses shared challenges facing Ugandans.

Mayiga later shared the interaction on Twitter, saying: “Enkya ya leero nnyanirizza mukoddomi wange Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu akulembeddemu Bannakibiina ki National Unity Platform okujja Embuga.”

The Buganda Kingdom also highlighted; ”Ekiriwo kati; President wa National Unity Platform, Hon.
