The meeting will bring together parliamentary aspirants from all political parties as well as independent candidates currently engaged in campaign activities across the district. According to the RDC, the engagement is preventive in nature and is aimed at addressing security concerns linked to political rallies, public gatherings, and the conduct of candidates and their supporters before, during, and after Election Day.
Mr. Eseru said the meeting will involve key district security stakeholders, including the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and intelligence personnel. The security teams are expected to brief candidates on guidelines, expectations, and protocols to be observed throughout the campaign and electoral period.
“This meeting is intended to promote peaceful coexistence among candidates and their supporters, and to prevent any acts that may disrupt public order,” Eseru said, emphasizing that maintaining peace is a shared responsibility among all political actors.
Candidates will also be given an opportunity to raise concerns and seek clarification on security-related issues affecting their campaigns and voting day operations, in a bid to foster trust and cooperation between political actors and security agencies.
The move has been welcomed by several candidates, who described it as timely, especially as political activities continue to intensify across Amuria District. Others, however, called on the authorities to ensure transparency and equal treatment of all candidates, regardless of political affiliation.
Amuria District, particularly Orungo County, has in previous election cycles experienced tense political moments, prompting authorities to prioritize early engagement with candidates and their supporters to avert potential unrest.
The RDC urged all invited candidates to attend the meeting without fail, warning that security agencies will not tolerate any actions that threaten peace and stability in the district during the election period.
