As the Buganda Kingdom prepares to mark the 71st birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, this year’s Kabaka Birthday Run aimed at combating HIV/AIDS has received a boost from Yoweri Museveni.
The support, in the form of running kits valued at UGX 15 million, was delivered by Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), on behalf of the President.
Namyalo and her delegation were received at Bulange Mengo by the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga.
While delivering the President’s message, Namyalo praised the Buganda Kingdom’s leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the importance of collective action.
“President Museveni’s commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS remains steadfast. We believe that through unity and joint efforts, the goal of eliminating HIV by 2030 is achievable,” Namyalo said.
She also appreciated the Kingdom for its continued collaboration with her office in advancing community-focused initiatives.
In his remarks, Katikkiro Mayiga commended the Office of the National Chairman for its consistent support and participation in Buganda Kingdom activities.
“All leaders should emulate Namyalo. In whatever she does, she puts her kingdom first. We may change religions and political parties, but we cannot change our tribes,” Mayiga said.
He further acknowledged government efforts in addressing national challenges, including the fight against corruption.
Namyalo later received the running kits and pledged to ensure their distribution to Bazzukulu to support their participation in the run.
“We shall ensure these kits reach the people and enable more Ugandans to take part in this important cause of fighting HIV/AIDS,” she added.
The Kabaka Birthday Run is an annual event that mobilizes communities across the country in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
