Pakwach District leaders led by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Eseru Paul who also doubles as Chairman District Taskforce have urged all Ugandans in West Nile to rush for Yellow Fever Prevention and Mass Vaccination scheduled to commence on Friday 9th June 2023 at the designated vaccination points.
Swift Daily News has learnt that these vaccinations will be held for only 5 days.
The leaders made the announcement during a meeting held today with the objective of preparing for this forthcoming mass vaccination targeting all persons between the ages of 9 months to 60 years.
”Yes, we held the meeting today to plan for the mass vaccination aimed at saving lives of our people against this deadly, deleterious, sanguine and truculent yellow fever epidemic,” said RDC Eseru adding; ”We urge all people of Pakwach District, West Nile and Uganda in general to quickly go get this vaccine at the nearest designated vaccination points.”
The vaccines will be used to curb yellow fever following an outbreak in the West Nile sub-region in the last few years.
Robert Omito Steen, the Pakwach LCV Chairperson in the meeting pledged his political will and support towards the successful execution of this vaccination program. Others who attended the meeting are; the District Internal Security Officer, District Police Commander, District Health Officer, District Health Teams, Ministry of Health supervisors, and Infectious Diseases Institute officials.
Meanwhile, this will be a relief to Ugandans who have been accessing vaccines on a cash-and-carry basis from private healthcare providers both within and outside Pakwach and neighboring districts.
Yellow fever is an epidemic-prone mosquito-borne vaccine-preventable disease caused by an arbovirus transmitted to humans by the bites of infected Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes.
Once contracted, the yellow fever virus incubates in the body for 3 to 6 days and although the majority of infections are asymptomatic when symptoms occur, the most common are fever, muscle pain with prominent backache, headache, loss of appetite, and nausea or vomiting.
