2026 Battle: Dramatic Scenes As Police Deploys Heavily At FDC Party Offices

By Our Reporter

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has raised alarm over what it describes as continued political repression after police officers blocked a scheduled meeting of party leaders in Kitgum District.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the opposition party accused the government of using state security forces to suppress political opposition. The FDC claims police surrounded their party offices in Kitgum early Saturday, preventing members from gathering.

“Police have cordoned off the venue for the meeting of party leaders from Kitgum District, which was set to take place at our party offices,” the FDC stated, sharing images showing police officers stationed outside the premises.

According to the FDC, the operation was led by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Marajan Waliri, in collaboration with the army. The District Police Commander, SP Peter Oyesigye, reportedly acted on orders from the RDC to block the meeting.

The party condemned the police action as politically biased, citing the double standards that allow the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to hold mobilization events without interference.

“Our offices have been closed by the partisan police, while the NRM is freely allowed to mobilize,” the FDC added in its post.

The incident adds to a growing list of complaints from opposition parties regarding political space and civil liberties in Uganda ahead of the 2026 general elections. Human rights groups have also voiced concern over increased restrictions on public assembly and opposition activity.

There has been no official statement from the Uganda Police Force regarding the incident at the time of publication.
