The countdown is on! Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are entering the final lap of preparations as they gear up to co-host the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a historic first for East Africa — and for the continent at large.
The tournament, which officially kicks off on August 2 and runs until August 30, 2025, will be the first-ever CAF competition to be jointly hosted by three countries, a feat that is already igniting regional pride and continental excitement.
With just days to go, the atmosphere is electric. From Kampala to Nairobi to Dar es Salaam, football fever is spreading fast. Streets are abuzz, stadiums are undergoing final touch-ups, and fans are counting down the days to Africa’s biggest celebration of home-grown football talent.
A Tournament Of Firsts
This eighth edition of CHAN is unique in every sense. Not only is it being tri-hosted, but it also centers entirely on players active in domestic leagues across Africa. For many of these athletes, CHAN offers a rare and prestigious platform to showcase their skills and catapult themselves onto the international stage.
The tournament opener will be staged at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while Kampala will host the crucial third-place playoff. The drama will culminate in Nairobi, where the final match will crown the 2024 CHAN champion.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba highlighted the significance of the event:
“We’re now just two weeks away from writing a new chapter in African football. The TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament — it’s a powerful statement of African excellence, unity and belief in local talent. East Africa is ready to welcome the continent.”
Defending Champions & Rising Stars
The final draw has been completed, with 19 teams locked in, including defending champions Senegal. Group stage matchups are already generating hype, with fans eager to see which local heroes will rise to the occasion.
Each game promises edge-of-your-seat excitement, national pride, and unforgettable moments. And with East Africa in the spotlight, the tournament is expected to deliver not just quality football, but a world-class experience for players, fans, and visitors alike.
Organizers from CAF and the Local Organising Committees are finalizing logistics. Ticketing strategies are being rolled out, marketing campaigns are flooding the media, and every host stadium is undergoing its final phase of inspection and upgrades.
As the spotlight turns to the region, all signs point to a historic, colorful, and thrilling celebration of African football.
Whether you’re in Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania — or watching from across the globe — CHAN 2024 promises to be a month-long spectacle of passion, pride, and the power of the beautiful game.
