GoldStar Insurance Marks 30 Years with Major Tree-Planting Drive at Kira Primary School

Kampala: GoldStar Insurance Company Limited has marked its 30th anniversary by launching a major environmental conservation initiative, planting 150 fruit and indigenous trees at Kira Primary School in Wakiso District.

The exercise, held in partnership with “My Tree Initiative Uganda” and five Rotary Clubs, formed part of the insurer’s corporate social responsibility programme under its anniversary theme, “30 Years. One Promise.”

The tree-planting campaign brought together GoldStar staff, pupils, teachers and community partners to plant a mix of fruit trees—including avocado, mango, guava and jackfruit—as well as indigenous shade trees such as Mugavu, Musambya, Ensaali and Entasesa.

Beyond planting trees, the initiative focused on environmental education, with more than 391 pupils receiving practical training on tree care, watering and maintenance. The school’s Environmental Club has also been tasked with ensuring the trees are nurtured to maturity. According to organisers, the fruit trees are expected to supplement school meals within the next two to three years, while the shade trees will help combat soil erosion and flooding around the school.

Speaking during the event, GoldStar Insurance Chief Operations Officer Enock Mudadi said the company was extending its long-standing commitment to protecting Ugandans by investing in the environment.

“For thirty years, GoldStar has stood with Ugandans through storms, fires, floods and uncertainty. Insurance is, at its heart, a promise about the future—and there is no more honest way to invest in the future than to plant a tree with a child and commit to seeing it grow,” Mudadi said.

He added that the initiative was not just about planting trees but also about instilling a culture of environmental stewardship among young people while reaffirming the company’s commitment to serving Ugandans for decades to come.

The project will now move into its second phase, with My Tree Initiative Uganda overseeing maintenance, survival-rate tracking, GPS mapping and continued monitoring of the planted trees in collaboration with the school and surrounding community. GoldStar also donated branded school bags, T-shirts and learning materials to participating pupils in appreciation of their role as custodians of the trees.
