Family Horror! Siblings Bury Parents Alive Over Inheritance Row

Chad is reeling from a horrific tragedy after two siblings in the Logone Oriental region reportedly buried their parents alive during a bitter quarrel over land inheritance.

Local authorities confirmed the incident occurred late Sunday in a village near Doba, when the brother and sister confronted their parents, demanding an immediate share of the family’s farmland.

“When the parents refused to divide the land, the children became violent,” said Col. Mahamat Sougoud, the regional police commander. “They tied up their parents and buried them in a shallow pit near the homestead.”

Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, rushed to the scene but found the parents dead by the time they were able to dig them out.

The two suspects, both in their early twenties, were arrested on-site and are now in police custody. They face charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy, which could lead to the death penalty or life imprisonment under Chadian law.

Village elders and religious leaders condemned the act as “unthinkable” and called for urgent dialogue on inheritance disputes, which are increasingly a source of tension in rural communities.

“This tragedy shows how land has become a flashpoint for violence,” said Dr. Hissein Doumro, a sociologist at the University of N’Djamena. “Traditional conflict resolution systems must be strengthened to prevent such acts from ever happening again.”

Police have appealed to the public for calm as investigations continue. A burial ceremony for the victims is expected to take place under tight security to prevent retaliatory violence from extended relatives.
