The State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, has called on Ugandans to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence, and responsible civic participation as the country ushers in the New Year 2026.
In his New Year message released on Wednesday, Dr. Muyingo extended greetings to Ugandans at home and abroad, thanking God for protection and guidance throughout the past year and for granting the nation peace and good health as it enters 2026.

Reflecting on Uganda’s national journey, the minister said the country’s progress has been driven by resilience, hard work, and a strong spirit of solidarity among its people. He commended citizens across all communities for their continued contribution to national development despite various challenges.
“As we step into 2026, let us renew our collective commitment to unity, love, and service,” Dr. Muyingo said, emphasizing that Uganda’s strength lies in its diversity and shared destiny.
With the country preparing for another electoral cycle, the minister urged citizens to participate in the democratic process peacefully and responsibly. He appealed for dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that peaceful elections are essential for sustaining national stability and democratic maturity.
Dr. Muyingo also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), crediting the government with maintaining stability, expanding access to education, modernizing infrastructure, and promoting economic empowerment. He said the ruling party’s focus on “Protecting the Gains” reflects a commitment to consolidating peace and accelerating socio-economic transformation.
The minister highlighted education as a cornerstone of Uganda’s development agenda, reaffirming government efforts to expand access, improve quality, and align learning with the needs of a growing and modern economy. He noted that empowering the youth through education remains central to building a prosperous and inclusive future.
“As a nation, we must protect the gains we have made by strengthening institutions, nurturing discipline, and building an economy that serves every Ugandan family,” he said.
Dr. Muyingo concluded by wishing Ugandans a peaceful, joyful, and prosperous New Year, calling for gratitude, faith, and renewed determination as the country moves forward.
“Together, let us continue to pursue a Uganda that is united, peaceful, and prosperous for generations to come,” he said.
