Excitement and camaraderie marked the conclusion of the District Police Commander (DPC) Tournament in Mbarara, a sporting event that brought together police officers from across the district in a spirited display of teamwork and discipline.

The tournament, which kicked off on Thursday and climaxed on Sunday, featured competitive football and netball matches involving teams from various police stations. Organized under the leadership of Mbarara District Police Commander, Byamukama Benon, the initiative was widely praised for strengthening unity and boosting morale within the force.

The Guest of Honor was Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman for Mbarara District, who commended the officers for their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

The tournament progressed from intense group-stage fixtures to highly anticipated semi-finals and finals. In the netball showdown, Rubindi Town Council Police Station edged out Bwizibwera Police Station in a thrilling contest to claim the championship. Meanwhile, in football, Bwizibwera Police Station emerged victorious after defeating Kagongi Police Station to lift the trophy.

Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, DPC Byamukama lauded officers for embracing teamwork beyond their routine law enforcement duties. He emphasized that sporting activities play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and cohesion within the police force.

Winners received medals, trophies, and goats, adding excitement to the celebrations. In a notable gesture, Tuhaise further rewarded each winning team with a bull, underscoring his continued support for sports development initiatives in the district.

In his remarks, Tuhaise urged officers to serve Ugandans with integrity and dedication, reminding them of their responsibility under the leadership of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“The NRM government is pro-people,” Tuhaise said. “Police officers must serve citizens genuinely, avoid corruption, and treat Ugandans with respect because they are the reason you wear the uniform.”

He noted that maintaining integrity within the police force is essential to sustaining the peace and stability the country enjoys. Tuhaise also commended DPC Byamukama for organizing the tournament, describing it as a leadership model that other districts could emulate to enhance discipline and teamwork among officers.

“If all Police Commanders across Uganda were organizing such unifying and empowering activities, our country would register the least cases of criminality among officers,” he noted. “This is leadership that builds teamwork, discipline, and love for the nation.”

The NRM Chairman took time to applaud the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni, crediting his government for the peace and stability Uganda has maintained over the years.

“Many African countries are grappling with insecurity and political instability, but Uganda remains peaceful because of the good leadership of President Museveni and his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is our CDF,” Prosper said.

He thanked the people of Mbarara for responding to his mobilization efforts and supporting President Museveni’s return to State House, noting that the overwhelming support reflected trust in the NRM’s leadership.

Widely recognized as a celebrated sportsman in Uganda and the East African region, Prosper Tuhaise is the proprietor of a sports betting company operating in several East African countries and employing thousands. From his youthful days, he has invested millions in youth sports initiatives, believing that talent development keeps young people away from crime and opens doors to global opportunities.

As the driving force behind Bwizibwera United FC, one of Western Uganda’s finest clubs, Prosper continues to champion football as both a talent pipeline and an economic venture.

The DPC Tournament ended not only with trophies lifted and prizes awarded, but also with renewed commitment among officers to serve with integrity inspired by Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire’s call for patriotism, discipline, and unity.
