Sudhir, Kirumira Throw Weight Behind Muhoozi Presidency Bid, Sign PLU Endorsement Books

By Frank Kamuntu

Uganda’s prominent businessmen Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira have publicly endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions, handing the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) a significant boost as it intensifies its mobilisation campaign.

The two business leaders on Monday, September 7, 2026, visited the headquarters of the PLU, the political mobilisation group chaired by Gen. Muhoozi, where they signed endorsement books supporting his bid for the presidency.

Their appearance at the PLU offices has been received by supporters as a high-profile show of confidence in Muhoozi’s leadership and political agenda, adding the names of two prominent figures from Uganda’s private sector to an ongoing campaign seeking widespread public endorsements.

Top PLU officials and mobilisers confirmed that the businessmen participated in the signature collection drive, which the group says is aimed at securing millions of endorsements for Muhoozi.

Supporters of the PLU subsequently celebrated the development, describing the participation of the two tycoons as evidence of growing confidence among influential Ugandans in Muhoozi’s political future.

Sudhir’s Earlier Support For Muhoozi

Sudhir’s latest move follows previous public support for Gen. Muhoozi.

In April 2026, the businessman contributed UGX100 million towards Muhoozi’s “Run for Hope” birthday charity event held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The contribution was seen by Muhoozi’s supporters as an indication of the businessman’s willingness to associate with initiatives linked to the General.

His latest endorsement therefore represents another significant public gesture of support, this time coming directly within the PLU’s political mobilisation activities.

For PLU supporters, the involvement of high-profile businessmen could strengthen the group’s visibility and potentially encourage other members of Uganda’s business community to openly associate with Muhoozi’s political ambitions.

Sudhir and Kirumira also represented the Kwagalana Group, an influential network of Kampala-based businesspeople whose members have interests across several sectors of the economy.

Their participation gives the endorsement an additional dimension because of the prominence of the business community represented by the two tycoons.

The group has long been associated with some of Kampala’s most prominent entrepreneurs and property owners, making the public appearance of two of its leading figures politically significant.

The endorsement comes as PLU continues efforts to expand its grassroots and elite support base for Muhoozi.

The organisation has been pushing a signature campaign intended to demonstrate the level of support behind the General’s political ambitions.

The participation of Sudhir and Kirumira could provide additional momentum to that campaign, particularly among sections of the private sector that closely follow political developments because of their potential impact on the economy and business environment.
