Outspoken social-political analyst Frank Gashumba has come out strongly in defense of his marriage to Patience Mutoni Malaika, responding to critics who have questioned the age difference between the couple and the circumstances surrounding their relationship.
In a recent interview, Gashumba dismissed negative commentary on his choice of a younger partner, asking why some people expected him to marry significantly older women. “Those saying I married a young lady—did you want me to marry Annet Nandujja or Namirembe Bitamazire?” he asked. “If you’re claiming she is young, is she underage?”
He didn’t hold back in criticizing what he described as “failures in life” who had no moral authority to comment on his personal choices. “Those who attack Malaika are failures in life,” Gashumba stated. “Some of them have never experienced the joy I recently experienced.”
A Test Of Patience & Love
Gashumba also revealed a personal side to his relationship, explaining that before committing fully, he tested Malaika’s patience to ensure she was not just interested in material gain. According to him, when they met close to a year ago, Malaika did not own a car and relied on boda-bodas and taxis for transportation.
“I got Malaika when she had no car,” he said. “She was using bodas and taxis, and I let her continue for about eight months to see her patience and tolerance.”
This experience, Gashumba shared, convinced him that she was genuinely committed and not in the relationship for financial gain. “That made me believe she is the wife I’ve long desired to have at my home.”
After she proved her patience, Gashumba took her to a driving school and in January, gifted her a brand-new car worth Shs37 million.
Living In Harmony
Despite public scrutiny, Gashumba emphasized that he and Malaika are in a harmonious and deeply loving relationship. He urged critics to mind their own affairs and stop projecting their bitterness onto others who are happy.
His bold defense and detailed recounting of their relationship journey offer a glimpse into his values—particularly loyalty, patience, and love free from superficial judgment.
As Gashumba continues to live his life publicly, his message is clear: love doesn’t need validation from the crowd.
