NRM Crisis Deepens! Museveni Spits More Venom In Fresh Statement-Kicks Tanga Odoi Aside, Orders Lawyers To Take Over

By Our Reporter

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has publicly addressed the growing controversy surrounding the recent NRM party primaries, describing them as “glorious” but unfortunately “kutokozibwa” (polluted) by criminal actions committed by self-seeking individuals.

In a strongly worded message directed to NRM members, Bazzukulu (youth), and all Ugandans, the President condemned electoral malpractice, including bribery, violence, result-tampering, and interference with voter registers.

“These actions,” Museveni stated, “are not only criminal but are also distorting the politics and the law of elections.”

Criminals Arrested, Legal Process Underway

Museveni revealed that security agencies, notably the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), have already taken action, arresting and charging several suspects linked to electoral fraud.

“What remains,” he said, “are the political and legal aspects. What happens to the flagbearers who were fraudulently declared?”

The President questioned why the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has not corrected what he termed “obvious fraud,” particularly in an election where voting was conducted openly by lining up.

“Everybody saw the results,” he emphasized. “How does anybody change that, other than making oneself a fool?”

Museveni disclosed that legal counsel has advised against Tanga Odoi being the one to reverse any mistakes, since he was directly involved in the process. Instead, a lawyers’ committee (tribunal) has been tasked with resolving the disputes related to the NRM flagbearers.

“They will deal with both the political and legal matters,” Museveni assured. “And they will be guided by the same facts that led ISO and CID to arrest and charge the fraudsters.”

“Grievances Are Being Addressed”

To those who feel aggrieved by the outcome of the primaries, Museveni offered reassurance: “Everything will be rectified. It is just the facts and evidence that will conclude the matter.”

The statement, signed off with his traditional titles — Ssaabalwanyi (Chief Fighter) and Ssemalungu (a self-styled title referencing truth and clarity) — signals the President’s intent to restore credibility to the ruling party’s internal democratic processes.

As investigations continue, the NRM awaits the outcome of the legal tribunal, which is expected to determine whether fraudulently declared winners will retain their positions or be replaced.

The NRM primaries, held through open voting, have been mired in controversy across several districts, with numerous allegations of rigging, bribery, and voter intimidation. The latest presidential statement comes as pressure mounts on the party leadership to ensure transparency and justice ahead of the 2026 general elections.
