Ugandan businessman and Ruparelia Group chairman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has received a dividend payment of Shs2.25 billion from his shareholding in Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Limited following the lender’s strong financial performance in 2025.
Ruparelia shared a photograph on Wednesday showing him receiving a ceremonial cheque worth Shs2,250,981,000, dated August 19, 2026, in a formal presentation alongside a Bank of Baroda official.
The payment represents dividends from Ruparelia’s investment in the listed bank for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.
Bank of Baroda Uganda approved a dividend of Shs6 per share for the year, up from Shs4 per share paid to shareholders for the previous financial year.
Ruparelia is reported to hold about 375.16 million shares in the bank, equivalent to approximately 2.5 per cent, placing him among the lender’s notable individual shareholders.
The dividend comes after the bank posted a strong financial performance in 2025, with profit after tax rising to approximately Shs156.8 billion.
Shareholders subsequently approved the higher dividend at the bank’s Annual General Meeting, paving the way for payment to investors after the necessary regulatory processes.
The payout highlights the potential returns available to investors in Uganda’s listed financial institutions, particularly following a year of strong earnings in the banking sector.
For Ruparelia, the investment adds to a diversified portfolio spanning real estate, hospitality, education and financial services.
He is the founder and chairman of the Ruparelia Group, one of Uganda’s prominent business conglomerates, with interests in several sectors of the economy.
The businessman has maintained investments in Uganda’s financial sector for decades, with his Bank of Baroda holding forming part of his wider investment strategy.
The ceremonial cheque presentation also comes as listed companies continue to attract attention from individual investors seeking dividend income alongside long-term capital growth.
Neither Bank of Baroda Uganda nor the Ruparelia Group issued a separate statement regarding the payment beyond the details accompanying the cheque presentation.
The Shs2.25 billion payout underscores the scale of returns that sizeable equity holdings can generate when listed companies maintain strong profitability and increase shareholder distributions.
