Big Milestone: Goldstar Insurance Marks Three Decades Of Growth & Financial Strength In Uganda

By Frank Kamuntu

Goldstar Insurance Company Limited is celebrating a major milestone this month, marking 30 years of safeguarding Ugandan businesses, institutions, and individuals. Since opening its doors in 1996, the insurer has established itself as an industry leader built on prudent underwriting, reliable claims settlement, and sustainable financial growth.

The anniversary coincides with strong independent validation of the company’s solid financial footing. In May 2026, GCR Ratings reaffirmed Goldstar’s AA (UG) National Scale Financial Strength Rating with a Stable Outlook. This rating underscores the insurer’s robust liquidity, capital depth, and capacity to fulfill commitments to policyholders.

Supported by a total capital base of UGX 43.6 billion, Goldstar closed 2025 with a statutory capital adequacy ratio of 311%, significantly surpassing the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda’s requirement of 200%.

Goldstar continues to expand its market footprint, recording a 21% surge in insurance revenue to UGX 51.2 billion in 2025. Driven by strong demand in engineering, transport, and commercial lines, the firm’s national market share rose to approximately 5.3%.

During the anniversary celebrations in Kampala, Chief Executive Officer John Kawuma revealed that the company has already written roughly UGX 53 billion in business this year while distributing approximately UGX 15 billion in claims payments.

Over the past five years alone, Goldstar has paid out UGX 69 billion in claims to policyholders, highlighting its steadfast commitment to honoring valid claims swiftly.
