PEAS Uganda has extended support to primary education in Isingiro district with the donation of construction materials to Green Valley Primary School, in a move aimed at improving learners’ welfare and strengthening the foundations of education in the area.
The materials, which included cement, sand, bricks and paint, are to be used to renovate the school’s boarding facilities and improve living conditions for pupils.
The handover was led by PEAS Uganda Deputy Country Director Daniel Kyasanga, who praised the school management for its commitment to supporting vulnerable children. He said although PEAS mainly focuses on expanding access to quality secondary education, attention must also be paid to the primary level where learners begin their academic journey.
“While our core work is in secondary education, we must not ignore the foundations where children come from,” Mr Kyasanga said. “Strong primary schools play a critical role in preparing learners for success at the next level.”
Green Valley Primary School director Alex Karyamarwaki welcomed the support, saying the renovation of the boarding section would greatly improve the wellbeing of pupils.
“This contribution will significantly enhance the living conditions of our boarding learners,” Mr Karyamarwaki said. “We are committed to improving education in this community, and this support will enable us to do even more for our children.”
Local leaders also lauded the initiative. Ruborogota LCIII chairperson Ronald Sseguya said the intervention would help improve education outcomes at the grassroots. He noted that since the establishment of PEAS Frontiers Secondary School in 2015, the area has seen improvements in infrastructure and access to affordable quality education.
As part of the same outreach, the PEAS team also visited PEAS Frontiers Secondary School, where mattresses were donated to support boarding students, while bicycles were provided to ease transport for day scholars.
Green Valley Primary School currently has an enrolment of about 550 pupils, including 86 boarders and four learners with disabilities. Each year, the school sends between 10 and 15 pupils to PEAS Frontiers Secondary School, making it an important feeder institution in the area.
The support, PEAS Uganda said, is intended to strengthen the education system by ensuring that vulnerable children, especially girls, receive a strong academic foundation that can support long-term success.
