The NRM Revolutionary Network (NRN) held a high-level consultative meeting this week with Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, the newly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale City, who has declared her candidacy for Speaker of the 12th Parliament. The engagement, part of the Network’s wider series of consultations with political and governance stakeholders, centred on Uganda’s institutional development as the country prepares for a new parliamentary term.
During the meeting, Hon. Wanyoto articulated a compelling vision for the speakership one anchored in discipline, accountability, and service to the people. She expressed her desire to preside over a Parliament that places national interest above individual ambition, exercises oversight without hostility, and restores public confidence in Uganda’s legislative processes.
The Mbale City legislator further stressed the importance of structured leadership, ideological clarity among members, and caucus cohesion qualities she argued are essential if Parliament is to effectively support Uganda’s wealth creation initiatives and national development agenda.
“A people-centred Parliament anchored in discipline, accountability, and service delivery” that is the vision Hon. Wanyoto says should define the 12th Parliament’s leadership.
The NRN, for its part, reaffirmed its stance that parliamentary leadership processes must reflect broad-based participation and institutional consensus-building. The Network stressed that legitimacy within the NRM majority caucus should be established through inclusive dialogue before any plenary vote takes place in the August House.
In a statement following the meeting, the NRN moved to clarify the nature of its consultations, noting that such engagements are not intended as endorsement exercises for any specific candidate. “These are avenues to gather perspectives that enrich national discourse on institutional strengthening,” the Network stated, adding that it will continue meeting leaders across the political spectrum as part of its broader mandate.
The NRM Revolutionary Network, which brands itself as “The Future of NRA,” has been positioning itself as a dialogue and ideas platform within Uganda’s ruling party ecosystem, focused on promoting systems-based leadership, governance discipline, and long-term national stability.
The race for the speakership of the 12th Parliament is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as legislators return to Kampala. Hon. Wanyoto’s entry into the contest adds a significant dimension to what observers anticipate will be a closely watched contest within NRM ranks.
