Counsel Paul Mugoya Wanyoto has stepped in to reconcile two rival Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobilisation factions in Bugisu, seeking to consolidate their efforts ahead of the October 24 endorsement Baraza for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at Mbale Cricket Ground.
The intervention follows disagreements between two groups led by Hajji Isma Mukakandi and Brian Mauso, which had been conducting parallel mobilisation activities ahead of the anticipated gathering.
Wanyoto brought the rival camps together during a reconciliation meeting at his home in Nabweya, Mbale Northern City Division, where the two sides reportedly agreed to set aside their differences and work together towards the success of the event.
The meeting marks an effort to strengthen coordination within the PLU mobilisation structures in Bugisu, as organisers intensify preparations for the Baraza expected to attract political leaders, PLU coordinators and supporters from across the sub-region.
During the engagement, Wanyoto urged the factions to prioritise their shared objectives over internal disagreements, emphasising the need for a coordinated mobilisation drive to secure a strong turnout at Mbale Cricket Ground.
The reconciliation is expected to ease tensions between the two camps and support efforts to consolidate their activities under the regional organising committee, ending the parallel mobilisation approach that had characterised their preparations.
The October 24 Baraza is intended to endorse Gen. Kainerugaba, the PLU national chairman, as a potential successor to President Yoweri Museveni, placing the Bugisu mobilisation drive among the activities leading up to the gathering.
With preparations gathering momentum, the regional organising team is seeking to present a united front and strengthen grassroots coordination ahead of the event.
Wanyoto’s intervention underscores the importance of internal cohesion in political mobilisation, particularly as local organising teams work to bring supporters and competing leadership interests behind a common cause.
