Swift News Chief Executive Officer Frank Kamuntu, popularly known as Mr Swift, has graduated with a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Victoria University, marking another milestone in his academic and professional journey.

Kamuntu received the qualification during the university’s 10th Graduation Ceremony, which began on Monday and concludes today at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

A journalist and media entrepreneur, Kamuntu has built his career around news reporting, digital publishing and technology. His latest academic achievement reflects his commitment to professional development and his determination to deepen his knowledge of journalism and mass communication.

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in 2024, Kamuntu pledged not to settle for less, vowing to pursue further studies in the same field. Two years later, he has fulfilled that ambition, adding a master’s qualification to his academic credentials.

Reflecting on his journey, Kamuntu acknowledged that balancing postgraduate studies with work and other responsibilities was challenging. However, he credited the encouragement and support he received from people around him for helping him complete the programme.

He reserved special praise for Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga, whom he described as a father figure and a major source of inspiration throughout his studies.

“Truth be told, my hero in this journey has been Dr. Lawrence Muganga. To me, he is a father and my superhero. Sometimes I just sit and think about how much he embraced and loved me, and I run out of words,” Kamuntu said.

He praised Muganga for creating an environment in which students feel valued, supported and encouraged to pursue their ambitions, saying the Vice Chancellor’s personal support had made a lasting difference in his academic journey.

Kamuntu also commended Victoria University’s digital learning model, saying its online delivery of lectures, coursework and examinations enabled him to pursue his master’s degree without significantly disrupting his professional responsibilities.

He said the flexibility of studying from anywhere had been particularly valuable for a media executive whose work requires considerable time and attention.

Kamuntu further thanked his lecturers, singling out his research supervisor, Dr. Adnan Adikata, for his guidance, encouragement and patience throughout the dissertation process.

He described the research component as one of the most demanding stages of postgraduate education, crediting his supervisor for helping him refine his work and remain focused on producing a strong dissertation.

Beyond celebrating his qualification, Kamuntu used the occasion to encourage young people, particularly members of Generation Z, to embrace higher education while prioritising institutions that equip them with practical skills relevant to the modern workplace.

“Graduation is not the end of learning; it is the beginning of a greater journey. Keep pursuing further studies, because every new qualification expands your knowledge, sharpens your skills and opens doors to opportunities you never imagined. Never stop learning, because your future will be shaped by what you continue to learn today,” he said.

He urged young people seeking university education to look beyond academic qualifications and consider institutions that help them develop the practical competencies, creativity and adaptability needed to thrive in today’s competitive economy.

According to Kamuntu, Victoria University’s approach demonstrates how technology can make higher education more accessible and flexible, particularly for students who must balance learning with employment and other commitments.

The Swift News CEO also disclosed that he has no intention of ending his academic journey with a master’s degree, revealing plans to pursue another qualification in a different field, most likely technology.

The planned transition would complement his role at Swift Technologyz, a company specialising in website development, design, hosting and other digital solutions, as well as his broader interest in software engineering.

For Kamuntu, the next academic chapter represents an opportunity to combine his media experience with deeper technical knowledge at a time when journalism, digital publishing and technology are increasingly interconnected.

We say Congs to the big Boss!
