Bebe Cool Breaks Silence on NRM Internal Wrangles, Defends Treasurer Nekesa

By Our Reporter

Veteran Ugandan musician Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, has publicly praised National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo for her role in facilitating the party’s mobilisation activities during the 2026 presidential campaigns.

In a video circulating on social media, Bebe Cool credited Nekesa for providing crucial financial support to campaign-related activities, particularly those involving journalists, bloggers, social media influencers and musicians who participated in President Yoweri Museveni’s nationwide campaign rallies.

The Gagamel International boss recounted how his proposed campaign budget reportedly failed to secure approval from the NRM Secretary General, prompting him to seek assistance from Nekesa.

According to the musician, Nekesa promised to work around the clock to address the matter, eventually facilitating funds, although the amount was limited, to support the mobilisation activities.

He explained that the money helped facilitate the movement of media practitioners, digital content creators and a number of local musicians who provided entertainment and publicity at various campaign events across the country.

Bebe Cool said these activities played a role in amplifying the party’s campaign message through media coverage, online engagement and entertainment.

However, beyond appreciating Nekesa’s contribution, the musician expressed concern over what he described as growing internal attacks against the National Treasurer.

He alleged that some individuals within the NRM had sponsored bloggers and politicians to campaign against Nekesa, claiming that the attacks were motivated by ambitions to replace her as the party’s National Treasurer.

Bebe Cool urged those sharing his video to ensure it reaches President Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman, arguing that the President should be made aware of Nekesa’s contribution to the campaign and what he described as efforts to undermine her through internal political manoeuvres.

Nekesa has served as NRM National Treasurer since 2021, having previously held several public service positions, including Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa and State Minister for Karamoja Affairs.

Her responsibilities as National Treasurer include overseeing the party’s financial affairs and supporting its organisational activities.

Bebe Cool was also actively involved in the NRM’s 2026 mobilisation drive, including youth-focused outreach activities under initiatives such as the Unstoppable UG campaign.

His latest remarks have brought attention to the role of party officials in facilitating campaign operations, while also raising questions about internal competition and relations among senior NRM members in the aftermath of the elections.

The allegations of sponsored attacks, however, remain claims made by the musician in the circulating video and have not been independently established.
