Uganda Police has registered an accident involving M/V UAY 485E, an Isuzu Bus belonging to Link Bus Services Company driven by Kawawu Dauda which rammed into a stationary broken-down Mercedes Benz trailer with registration number UAV 326W.

SP Twesige Vincent, the Police Spokesperson Rwenzori West says the accident occured on 11th of July 2023, at around 19:45 hrs.

This same accident claimed the life of the bus driver Kawawu who died on spot.

“The other victims were immediately rushed to Kyenjojo Hospital for medical attention,” says SP Twesige adding,”We will provide more details as they become available.”

These come few hours after Speaker Anita Among’s call to government to install tough penalties on the roads to ensure that road carnage is brought down.

According to the Speaker, a number of accidents on the roads today are happening due to the lack of implementation of the Road Act 2009, which gives the government enough power to administer a number of punishments that would otherwise deter future road accidents.

She pointed out the case of cars that break down on the roads and stay there for more than six (6) hours, hampering movements and causing accidents.

“If we implemented the Road Act, 2019 to the letter then we would not be having all these problems. I want to urge the Minister to implement the law, especially Section 58, to tow those vehicles that break down on the road,” she said.
