”We shall not reveal our strategy for protecting the votes. Let’s play our cards right because this is politics,” Lukyamuzi stated.
For years, NUP and other opposition factions have accused President Yoweri Museveni’s government of vote rigging and electoral manipulation.
However, Hon. David Lukyamuzi’s remarks suggest that the opposition has learned from past experiences and is working behind the scenes to counter any attempts at electoral fraud.
Unlike previous elections where the opposition openly discussed their vote-protection plans, this time, they are choosing secrecy.
This statement has left many Ugandans speculating on what NUP’s game plan could be. Some believe the party is organizing a nationwide mobilization effort to ensure mass voter turnout, while others suspect a more sophisticated system to monitor and safeguard results at polling stations.
President Yoweri Museveni’s government has maintained that elections in Uganda are free and fair, dismissing opposition claims of fraud.
However, with growing dissatisfaction over governance, corruption, and economic struggles, the 2026 elections could prove to be one of the most competitive in Uganda’s history.
David Lukyamuzi’s message is a clear indication that NUP is not taking this election lightly. Whether their undisclosed strategy will be enough to unseat Museveni remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the battle for Uganda’s leadership in 2026 will be fierce.
