Victoria University Kampala has announced a major Artificial Intelligence training initiative that will see 10,000 applicants begin free classes starting May 25, 2026, in what is being described as a transformative step for digital education in Africa.
The programme, unveiled under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Lawrence Muganga, is designed to equip learners with practical, future-ready skills as the world rapidly shifts toward automation and intelligent technologies.
According to the university, the initiative has already attracted thousands of interested applicants and is aimed at preparing young people for a fast-evolving digital economy driven by AI.
The training will be delivered fully online, offering flexible access to participants in Uganda, across Africa, and globally. This approach ensures that learners can study from anywhere, breaking traditional barriers of location and cost.
Dr Muganga says the programme reflects a broader shift toward skills-based education, where practical knowledge takes precedence over purely theoretical learning.
The launch comes at a time when artificial intelligence is reshaping industries including business, healthcare, education, and communication. Experts increasingly warn that adapting to digital transformation is no longer optional.
Muganga emphasizes that AI represents the next major technological wave, comparable to the impact of mobile phones, and urged young people to embrace it or risk being left behind.
