BEYOND CRANE BANK: THE PROPERTY, HOSPITALITY AND EDUCATION EMPIRE OF SUDHIR RUPARELIA

By Frank Kamuntu

Businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has built a diversified business empire spanning real estate, hospitality, education, insurance and other sectors.

Although his name became widely associated with Crane Bank, the bank’s takeover in 2016 marked a major turning point in his business journey. Ruparelia subsequently focused strongly on expanding other investments, particularly property, hospitality and education.

Real estate has become a key pillar of the Ruparelia Group, with major developments such as Kingdom Kampala providing modern office and commercial space in the capital.

The group has also invested heavily in hospitality, strengthening Uganda’s tourism and conference sector while creating employment opportunities.

In education, institutions such as Delhi Public School International Uganda form part of the group’s wider investment portfolio.

Through this diversification, Ruparelia has continued to build businesses that generate employment, support suppliers and contribute to Uganda’s private sector.

His journey from banking to a broader portfolio of property, hospitality and education highlights a strategy centred on resilience, diversification and long-term investment in Uganda.
