From Lecture Halls To Big Screens: Mighty Victoria University Unveils BeTV, Hunts For Uganda’s Next TV Icons

By Frank Kamuntu

Victoria University has once again cemented its reputation as Uganda’s most forward-thinking and transformative academic institution with the launch of its own television station, BeTV. This bold move comes hot on the heels of the university’s recent unveiling of VU Radio, adding yet another layer to its dynamic and immersive learning model.

The announcement was made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Muganga, who reaffirmed Victoria University’s commitment to redefining the education experience for the 21st-century learner. In his words, “When we talk about experiential learning at Victoria University, this is what we mean — learning by doing, all day, every day.” He noted that BeTV is not just another campus project but a living, breathing media platform designed to train and elevate Uganda’s next generation of broadcasters and content creators.

BeTV will officially go live on July 25, 2025, and will operate as a full-fledged, professional-grade television station housed right within the university. With its own studios, red cameras, podcast zones, and music video production facilities, Victoria University now boasts one of the most advanced in-house multimedia training environments in East Africa. From technical equipment to creative crews, everything is in place — and the university is opening the door wide for young Ugandans with dreams of being on screen.

Veteran journalist JKazoora, one of the brains behind this move noted that the search is now on for young, talented presenters between the ages of 18 and 25.

”Hopefuls are encouraged to film a short phone video introducing themselves and demonstrating why they should be on BeTV. Submissions are being accepted through the university’s social media platforms, including those of VU Radio and BeTV.”

The presenters selected will be part of the television station’s founding team, and the opportunity is open to anyone with a passion for storytelling, confidence in front of the camera, and what Kazoora calls “the look and the X-factor.”

But beyond the excitement and glamour, the launch of BeTV is a serious educational milestone. It signals the university’s deeper philosophy of education—one that goes beyond lecture halls and textbooks.

Victoria University is shaping a new era of graduates who don’t just walk away with degrees but with marketable skills, industry experience, and the confidence to lead. Through its Cooperative Education model, students are immersed in the realities of the professional world from day one, and platforms like BeTV are proving that this university doesn’t just talk about innovation—it lives it.

Prof. Muganga has made it clear that BeTV is not an experiment—it is an institution within an institution. It is an engine that will power the dreams of hundreds of students and viewers, a platform that blends mentorship with opportunity, and an environment where creative young people are empowered to build personal brands and change narratives.

“At Victoria University, we have revolutionized higher education in Uganda,” he said. “We teach real-world skills, fuel innovation, build powerful networks, and help our students become brands in themselves. That’s the success path we believe in.”

With BeTV set to launch later this month, all eyes are on Victoria University—not just as a leader in education, but as a model of what African universities should aspire to be. In a country where many institutions still lag behind in adopting practical, student-centered learning models, Victoria University continues to lead with vision, boldness, and impact.

For any young Ugandan dreaming of a career in media, the message is clear: Victoria University is the place to be. It is not just a university—it is a platform for greatness. And now, with the arrival of BeTV, the spotlight has never been brighter.
