Sudhir Ruparelia Leads Kampala Celebration of Nepal’s Constitution Day

Business magnate and Honorary Consul of Nepal to Uganda, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, led celebrations to mark Nepal’s Constitution Day with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony at the Ugandan Consulate, located in Crane Chambers, Kampala.

The event, held three days after the official September 19 observance in Nepal, brought together members of the Nepalese community in Uganda — many of whom work within Sudhir’s Ruparelia Group of Companies.

Nepal’s Constitution Day commemorates the promulgation of the 2015 Constitution, which officially transitioned the Himalayan nation from a constitutional monarchy to a federal republic. The historic charter, adopted in the aftermath of the devastating 2015 earthquake, is widely regarded as a milestone for inclusivity, particularly for marginalized groups such as Dalits and Janajatis. It remains a public holiday celebrated annually on September 19.

Speaking during the Kampala ceremony, Dr. Ruparelia emphasized the significance of the day, saying, “It’s a celebration of resilience and shared values.” He also underscored the growing diplomatic and cultural ties between Uganda and Nepal.

Appointed Honorary Consul of Nepal in 2020 by then-President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Dr. Ruparelia has since leveraged both his role and business networks to strengthen relations between the two nations.
