By Frank Kamuntu

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs officials in Pakwach have impounded an ambulance, bearing registration number UBD 512X and attached to Koboko Hospital, for transporting smuggled cigarettes.

The vehicle was intercepted at URA’s checkpoint in Pakwach on a Sunday.

The driver, identified as Nobert Abukwa, was arrested after the officials discovered several packs of super match cigarettes concealed within the ambulance.

Simon Tweseigye, the URA Manager in Northern Uganda, said that their team is currently in the process of verifying the contents and assessing their monetary value.

He also disclosed that the arrested driver will face legal action as he is expected to be arraigned before the court.
