Crush Gone Wrong! Horny Woman Arrested For Openly Expressing Romantic Interest In President

By Our Correspondent

In a bizarre twist that’s left tongues wagging across West Africa, a young woman in Togo has been arrested and detained after openly expressing romantic interest in President Faure Gnassingbé on social media.

Identified as Akouvi Mawuenam, a 26-year-old university graduate and aspiring poet, the woman was reportedly picked up by security officials last Thursday after posting a series of flirtatious poems and love notes addressed to the president on her TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) accounts.

One of the posts that drew official attention reportedly read:
“Every heartbeat spells Faure. I dream of sitting beside you under the stars, not as a citizen but as the woman who loves the man behind the power.”

What many dismissed as harmless fangirling quickly spiraled into a national spectacle after Akouvi’s house in Lomé was raided and she was whisked away for what authorities called “questioning over national security concerns.”

Togolese police have since confirmed her arrest but offered vague reasons, stating she was being held over “inappropriate digital communications that could threaten the dignity and privacy of national leadership.”

Critics, however, see it differently.

“This is absurd and authoritarian,” said a spokesperson from Togo Human Rights Watch, who condemned the arrest as “a gross violation of personal freedoms and free expression.”

Social media has erupted with the hashtags #FreeAkouvi and #CrushIsNotACrime, as thousands rally to her defense. Memes, parody poems, and love songs dedicated to the president have since flooded the internet in solidarity with Akouvi’s plight.

“Are we now criminalizing emotions?” wrote one user on X. “She didn’t threaten the presidency—she just wanted to date it!”

Despite the mounting pressure, government sources maintain that the case is “sensitive” and that Akouvi’s posts contained “elements of potential provocation.”

Insiders, however, hint at internal embarrassment at the presidency over the viral attention the posts generated, particularly as some users began tagging the president directly in suggestive content.

As of today, Akouvi remains in custody at a facility in Lomé, with her legal team reportedly preparing to challenge her detention in court.

Sources now say the president has been briefed on the situation but has yet to issue any public comment. Meanwhile, global free speech advocates are demanding her immediate release, warning Togo risks becoming a “nation where even love becomes treason.”
